Why Viktor Gyokeres Is PERFECT For Arsenal.
yes James you alluded to it...teams that are in these rivalries but are the runt club of the 2 in terms of trophies...absolutely perpetuate a small minded outlook ..and this is one of the things that keeps them from succeeding, they spend far too much time worrying about others rather than themselves, this also happens to giant teams when they go through bleak patches (speaking from experience as Liverpool fan and witnessing it with Man U and Arsenal fans) they become small minded, and if they dont break out of that, they likely will fade into the background until they do realise such things. That is literally how Klopp turned LFC around in the first couple of years, more than the tactics or training or even personnel , he altered the mentality from the bottom of the club up from the fan base up, we were heading the way of Spurs prior . Man u are doing this currently And if you dont understand this then you are small minded and your club will always be smaller than your rival
What is this "their" shit?
Honestly with the belgium team rn im not able to say where well end up, but one things for sure if we dont win our group with ease they better just pack up and leave
Ange had every right to call out that loser mentality.
Is this really an actual topic...why is he bad...moving on
If the refs didnt screw us all season and steal like 25 points O'Neil should be manager of the year. Iraola should not be in the conversation.
I get Ange's perspective and also know he cant side with the fans for the sake of his job, I understand completely where Flav is coming from, and I understand James. I just think James' point is if Spurs could win the league but it meant Arsenal with the Champions League, would you take that deal?
Endrik
Thanks for all the content this season James, fingers crossed Flav can join you again for a few episodes next season
The fragility he of was talking about giving into pressure to change formation after a few consequtive loses, everyone has missed the point!!
When Son was thru on goal, Ange was going for the win, silly fans..
Mezzala - Support? Or maybe Cariello?
Ange set a puzzle in the last press conference, and the commentators and podders have not figured it out - have not figured Ange out basically. The Arsenal winning the league via spurs issue is a red herring, must have been an annoyance to Ange, but was not the meat and potatoes. The answers to the puzzle are all there in the last few press conferences! The fragility Ange spoke of, is everyone wetting the bed after a few loses, in the context of trying to build a winning team. He spoke in the presser before last, of fans, players and staff not getting it. This presser, in the puzzle he set, he mentioned fans, players, staff, everyone. He wasn't calling the club out, he wasn't having a go, he was upset, said he had misread the situation and will adapt his approach. Against City, he changed it up, after saying he would die on a hill. Well, changing it up is not how Ange believes you build for the future. Pep says Spurs will click in time. Maybe Pep is more insightful that the commentators lol. An Ange team should be like a pinball machine, with plenty of chances and goals. He doesn't want to just dominate, he wants to decimate teams. Ange doesn't see that VDV playing at left back will turn him into the best centre back in the world. Ange doesn't see that, when Spurs lose a left back, that the rest of the team will learn the system, when there is no inverted full back. And learn to pl;ay the system against all challenges. Ange sees that to learn and master a system, you have to play it against the best, and learn from what goes wrong. He always has had that belief, it has always served him well. When Celtic played in the Champions League, and lost, the Celtic fans got it, the team has to have a go to grow. That is what he means by putting long term success ahead of short term gains. That is what he means by saying there are no bragging rights on the walls in the club's hallways. Sounds like staff and players lost confidence when the going got a bit tough.
Shit analysis
Imagine not knowing who Toni Kroos is
Just an indication of his UN professionalism...YES, he is human and feeling the pressure...Might be out of a job soon?....probably has until XMAS.
Tottenham fans never have anything to cheer about when it comes to trophies. So beating Arsenal is their trophy. Arsenal may not win the league this season but its comming. 🤔
I'm a brit in Australia. James you are right about the aussie attitude towards sport, however, the one thing that aussie sport seriously lacks is emotion and rivalry. The history just isn't there, and so aussies don't fully understand the emotion that fuels this rivalry. At least in my opinion.
Bollocks. There's plenty of rivalry in aussie sport. The difference is the winning mentality and sporting ethos. This whole thing has pretty much nothing to do with sport.
Tottenham fans can never call themselves a big club ever again, in 2 decades the only thing you've celebrated is losing to City, proper small club.
James thinking the Aussies play cricket by the rules is hilarious. Absolute cheats are the Aussies.
Another manager joins the Spurs family and realises the family doesn't mind being a bunch of losers. It was once the ownership and the players....now it includes the fans 😂
Spurs fans have made it very clear. Not being teased down at the pub on the weekend by some random stranger wearing a Gunners shirt is FAR more important than playing Champions League football. If I was an elite player wanting to sign for an EPL club this summer window, Spus have just been scratched off my list. Who the hell wants to play for a club with a fan base that thinks is quite OK to cheer the opposition at home games under ANY circumstances? That's 1000 times worse that your own fans booing you off after a dismal performance, or walking out early. At least you know where their hearts lie.
I can’t believe this Flav guy. Trying to justify that the UCL is not important because Ange said so a month ago in a throwaway interview where he’s trying to reset expectations. That’s like me telling my kid it’s the effort that matters. Him failing school and him telling me; “Well you told me it’s the effort that matters!” Schoolboy mentality, this lad.
Lads, it’s Tottenham. The Everton of London.
West Ham fan here, if we had an outside chance to go to the UCL, I’d like them to fight till the end. Remember we are a rung below you two, so it might mean more.
Spot on Jim, Spurs fans have shown they'd rather lose small than win big. Short term gratification of denying Arsenal winning the league vs building a platform from which they can achieve some long overdue success. Perhaps its been so long for them they don't believe that they can ever be anything more than the irritating little sibling in their dynamic with Arsenal
I know for a fact most West Ham, Spurs, or Chelsea fans would be willing to lose to stop some of the insufferable Arsenal fans.
Hey guys just checking
I really think Ange should have tried not to react like that if he could because he knows this is a very rare situation, it's not like every week the fans are cheering for the other teams.
He should call them out and they should be embarrassed. A rivalry should be played out by winning on the field against the rival not by losing to someone else.
I think flav nailed it, it’s complicated. And a lot of people can’t hold two contradictory feelings at the same time, but that’s life sometimes. The real winning attitude is being able to sit in that discomfort and take it on the chin and keep going
Flav is 100% right. I grew up on a playground as the only Man City fan surrounded by United fans. We were shit. A part of the amazement of us being so good now is that they are so shit in comparison.
Ange not understanding the rivalry is a bit stupid. but hes right in that he should want to win and want his players to want to win, but he should be abel to accept the conundrum and paradox of this one game in particular. And as people have said, should have won the previous 4 games if you "always want to win".... I said this before the game, that if it was me (aston villa fan) I would feel the same wanting my team to lose, if a win hands my rival the title. With a very slim chance to get UCL, to hand a huge rival the title and still most likely not get 4th would be painful. It would be a totaly different story if we are already 4th or are level on points etc. HOWEVER i would want and expect my players and manager to want to win and try to win. I would only be happy to lose by being beaten while my team tried to win, no WAY on this earth would i want my team to lose on purpose... I suppose i would want to be beaten, rather than want to lose. its not entirely the same thing.
I think that Ange’s pre match comments inform his view about the north London rivalry more than his post match. He was asked about bragging rights between Arsenal and Tottenham, and his response was that if you look through the halls at Hotspur lane, there are no historic photos from the past 15 years. Arsenal would have photos from the same period of time. So what bragging rights do you REALLY have over your rivals if you are only considering 2 or 3 games worth of “bragging rights” instead of a seasons worth of success? Winning trophies (which is inherently at the expense of your rivals) is the only true bragging rights in sport
I miss Ball Street.
As a Liverpool fan, I wouldnt want Liverpool to throw to stop Everton winning a league. I have Everton fan friends who deserve the joy of it after so many years and want the City of Liverpool to succeed more generally... Not sure if i'm in a minority but I think most Liverpool fans would agree with me.
flav thats all well an good. but it makes u all a joke an deserving of the bad karma
Using Rangers, another team of serial losers, as a frame of reference for justification, is interesting.
Question to Spurs fan: Would you have Supported a Spurs win over City if it meant that Spurs won the League next year.. that’s the ultimate mentality question.
Spurs played very well i thought, a proper 12th man would have helped, Not a loanee from Arsenal. Beat City, was possible when you notice the amount of missed passes City managed to do. Try a get a result vs Sheffield utd, which Spurs should win. Palace looks good in form team, Villa would struggle to beat them. Spurs are 4 th in this scenario am i missing something. Shame on you spurs fans. UTV congrats and welcome to champions league football 👍
'Losers focus on winners, winners focus on winning'
Flav is spot on in arsewipes didn't win the league thru us beating or drawing with city ..SIMPLE !!
Is it that complicated? Spurs could have won that game if the fans were behind the team. You can go to a game and do whatever you want but if you're going to the game and don't support the team, then why bother going? Thats the loser mentality. Actively hurting your own team to hurt a rival is weak. Different story if you sit at home and hope for a loss.
15:07 - this is the most Spursy answer I've ever heard.
As we’ve seen with Ange and Kyra Cooney-Cross this week, it’s hard for Australians to understand the depth of hatred in the North London rivalry. I’m an Australian Arsenal fan of over 30 years and have lived a couple of years in London. I understand and get the rivalry but I’ll never truly feel it. We’re just not wired that way. Actual hatred should be based on genuine reason. For us, a true rivalry is based on some level of mutual respect and at the end of the day, despite the intensity, when all is said and done you should be able to have a beer with your rivals (eg the Ashes) because we know it’s just sport.
Shake hands b4 the beers always 👍 Totally agree
The best thing about the season was Jim’s Aussie accent 😂
One of the best pods you two have done. So many layers
Did Flav not enjoy the game,or being on the Club😂
Ange to Man Utd please!!!
Nedum is one of the best pundits out there. He actually tried analysis instead of wishful thinking and tribalism.
One must beware hubris… When being an American Liverpool fan who booked your travel to Dublin for the Europa league final 3 months in advance😢
I personally think next season will be the most competitive in the top half of the table for a while but it could mean city eat up the other teams again
